Could Big Brother about to take a warm interest in people’s houses and offices and send snoopers in to check our thermostats?
There has, of course, already been the revelation that Energy Performance Certificate data will be released to the likes of the Energy Savings Trust, which has called on the Government to make it illegal to sell or rent any low-rated property.
But are there now grounds for further suspicions?
This week, Tory MP Stewart Jackson, asked in the Commons whether Communities and Local Government will “transfer to third parties data held on its register of the energy performance of buildings”.
Housing minister John Healey replied: “The Secretary of State may disclose data to third parties held on its register in accordance with part 6 of the Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations 2007 as amended.“We plan to consult later this year on a strategy to allow third parties greater access to the energy performance of buildings data.
Meanwhile, congratulations to the energy inspectors who have won their battle against the Daily Express after the latter published an article talking about the 'thousands' of job opportunities in the industry.
Yesterday, the paper published a retraction, admitting that the domestic energy assessor industry was already well over-supplied.
