The temporary suspension on Stamp Duty Land Tax for homes under £175,000 is scheduled to end on 31 December 2009. Currently zero-rated, stamp duty will return to 1% for all residential properties valued from £125,000 to £250,000 that complete on or after 1 January 2010.
As house purchases can take several weeks to complete, estate agents, mortgage and other property experts are urging indecisive buyers - particularly first-time buyers - to take the plunge now, reminding them that the current suspension could save them up to £1,750.
